Nasi Ayam Mencongkam

I just came back, with a full tummy, and a smiley face, coz I just had my all time favorite food in the world (besides Karipap), Nasi Ayam. But what I had was not just any Nasi Ayam, it was Nasi Ayam Garing (their speciality), which you can only get at Nasi Ayam Mencongkam in Gombak.

The generous serving of rice was fragrant with sesame oil (and they use Beras Siam ok...), the soup was tasty and detailed with the taste of grind garlic and a bit of spices (just nice), real chicken stock, generous amount of bawang goreng, daun sup and daun bawang and a teeny bit of chopped cili padi for that extra kick (usually what we get nowadays is water, chicken cube and peanuts), Thai-style chili sauce, and a generous serving of chicken (and no extra charges for my fav part - drumstick, best sangat..) which is perfectly crispy as named, but not dry, and is garnished with lettuce and cucumber and a splash of their own kicap. Yummy. Service was good and fast, and it opens everyday, from 10 am to 12 pm (till the chicken sells out) Very highly recommended, for Nasi Ayam lovers like myself. I reward this place 4 stars. Recepi 12: Olyn's Fusion Baked Maggi

I created this out of things that I have at home. Just felt like cooking today, after a few series of Nigella Feasts in the morning, and I was in a lazy Saturday mood, so going out and shopping for groceries is certainly out of the question. I had recently updated my Italian spices that I buy at Bagus Store for Bakers, and had a tingling taste for Italian today. So I present, my very own Fusion Baked Maggi. Yummy and very easy to make.

3 packets Maggi
3 chicken breasts, cut into chunks
1 packet of hot dogs, cut into chunks
2 tomatoes, cut into chunks
2 large onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, smashed and chopped
4 eggs
1/2 cup flour
3 cups milk
3 tbsp butter
1/2 cup olive oil
3 cheddar cheese slices for topping, cut into triagles

1. Marinate chicken and sausages with pepper, oregano and thyme. Heat olive oil, and saute onions and half of garlic till golden. Add in the marinated chicken and sausages, and stir till chicken is slightly golden but still juicy.
2. Add in tomatoes, more pepper, thyme, oregano and salt. Stir till juice from tomatoes thickens. Place in a baking dish, and set aside.
3. In a large bowl, soak Maggi with hot water, till almost soft. Drain water and leave aside in a bowl.
4. Melt butter in a pan, and fry the remaining garlic till golden brown. Pour over Maggi, and toss with a dash of oregano and salt. Set aside.
5. In a bowl, beat the eggs, salt, milk and flour together. Pour half of this custard batter onto the chicken mixture in the baking dish. Make sure custard is distributed evenly between the chicken mixture. Top all this with the tossed Maggi, and pour in the remaining custard. Press the Maggi slighly, to ensure that all are covered with the custard.
6. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes in a 180 o Celcius oven. In the final 10 minutes, arrange cheese on top, and bake further. Let it set for 10 minutes before serving.

1. Make sure Maggi is not over-soaked, coz it will get too soggy when covered with custard.
2. This is a very rich tasting dish, so for a wholesome meal, have it with salad and a simple olive oil and lemon dressing.

I Was Tagged!!!

Hey...I was tagged twice by Nik and Lina...But I don't think I could make up 12 tags la kan..Basically, from what I understand, I need to tell everyone, 6 things that I don't think many people know about myself.

Tag 1: My Name
I was actually born Roselyn Binti Zamri, until my mom and aunts realised that they made a mistake about their children's names. I was 9 years old when my name changed to the current. We had a choice of using Puteri and Megat (Perak descendants) or Nik (Kelantan descendants). I think Mak and Ayah made a good choice to compliment my name, don't ya?
Tag 2: Nasik
I have a very unusual affection or should I say, obsession for rice. Yup, that explains the 'curves' la kan. Its been this way since adolescense, and yes, it was one of the biggest family jokes of all times. It got so bad, that one time when I went to an aunt's house, she had jokingly asked me if I wanted rice, and I said yes, and the adults all laughed, and went on with their small talks and left me waiting for the rice. Kejam kan? But I pretty much have gone over that phase I think (I'm trying to psycho myself here...supportive la sket) and am pretty much in control of the amount I take now. Hail to the queen of rice!
Tag 3: Cooking Frenzy
I started smoking the kitchen when I was about 9 years old. Started with surprise breakfasts for the family, to cookies, to cakes from Mak's recipe books and as I grew, I started making my own dishes. I guess a big part of this passion is due to the apreciation I get from my family who ever-so-willingly eats all that I cook and generously pours praises after praises for all that I make. Just recently I realise as well that cooking destresses me and is a form of relaxation for the weekend.
Tag 4: Stutter
I used to stutter when I was a young girl. Not the really bad kind, but still a stutter la. I'd have 'um um um' in almost every sentence, that an aunt used to call me Little Plum (a cartoon character that talks like me). It somehow got better throughout the years and Alhamdulillah, its 99.9% gone by now. I'm talking none stop now :)
Tag 5: Superstitious
I'm kinda superstitious. I try very hard not to sing in the kitchen when I cook, I religiously wash my feet before hopping into bed at night, I avoid black cats (dah la banyak kat may housing area), I don't 'tegur' smells at night and a few more I can't think of right now. I love all the hocus pocus things I see on TV. My favorite movie of all times is Practical Magic.
Tag 6: Relationships; To be or Not to Be
I am very traditional, especially when it comes to relationships. Yup, I know its the 21st century and I am every bit as modern as everyone else, but when it comes to initiating a relationship, I'd raise the white flag. My past relationships were easy, coz the guys made the first move and I'd mutually give in and fall for the guy (realising much later how I don't really dig into the them anyway, more for the presence of a BF) No first moves from me, ever, I think. I'm too shy for that. :p

A Tribute...My Neighbors

I've been working in the same company since graduation,and I've been attached so far to 3 departments. This came to me, coz I think I'm losing one of my favorite neighbors of all time, Mr. Left Neighbor. Yeah, I know I'm being over-emotional and exagerating, and yeah, I know he'll only be 5 seconds away from his old place. Anyway, it just got me thinking, and I actually managed to make a list of all my neighbors in these past 4 years.

Left Neighbors:
1. Najib...a warm neighbor, who kinda reminds of a bigger brother
2. Azizi...wonder what happened to you buddy...Long time no see...Such a gentleman
3. My Ex
4. En. of few words, but ever so cheerful once you start talking to him :)
5.'ll always be my favorite Mr. Left Neighbor...wonder what I'd be calling the next one that comes along...thank you for being a good friend, listener, advisor...a rock star in the making, very patient, sweet, knowledgeable, musical, funny, temperamental sometimes, generous, surprisingly nerdy sometimes :p ...days to come won't be the same without you :(

Right Neighbors:
1. Fariz...a sweet guy who became a fast friend
2. of my very own best friend...I miss our old times dear, till the very end, especially our little sessions on the roof...
3. Cikgu...a very brief neighborly time..he moved on to become the teacher he is after only 1 week of saying hi's in the morning...
4. Fizal...a crazy-sweet guy, who loves to flirt with everyone and makes my day colorful everyday...I think he may be the one who introduced me to the definition of sexual harrassment as a funny thing and something that keeps me sane throughout my life in that department...
5. Zamri...a very quiet guy...I wasn't myself either when I sat sorry if I made your life miserable...
6. Chad...I miss you buddy...another sweet guy that left me and some others here in tears...he went on to pursue bigger dreams...
7. Farid Neo...adik yang sangat kalut dan kelakar...another brief encounter with a great guy who's obsessed with his Satria Neo...
8. Mr. Right Neighbor...crazy but I think one of the sweetest friend I've ever met in my, brotherly, ridiculously funny, my favorite Mr. Right Neighbor to this very day...don't ever leave us again OK?

Thank you for being my neighbor, for coping with my kalutness, my weird ways, my whinings, my mood swings, my messy part of the table, my loud laughter, my singing and whatever it is that has made you a teeny bit miserable from day to day...

Its been a while since the last post, and the weird thing is, I was not even THAT busy to write. There just wasn't the mood to I guess. Let's see...For the past 2 weeks, my weekends are full of weddings (to attend as guest) so you can imagine how I've swayed from my diet. Been eating rice (haven't done that for 2 months before 2 weeks ago) but maintaining, thank God. Had the pleasure of splurging on wedding gifts for my beloved friends who got hitched during the past weeks. There was Baim (and Marina), Lin (and Pejol), Linda (and Yopi) and Shikin (and Zia) Dearest friends...Congrats on your weddings...May you have a wonderful life together, make many many babies for me to spoil, and live happily ever after. Speaking of babies, my cousin Lily had just blessed the family with the arrival of Adam Zulkarnain. Alhamdulilah, both mother and son are in good health.

Besides that, I had 1 day (only 1 day OK) of having the pleasure of cooking, that I cooked too much and managed to bring a bit to the office for my spoiled neighbors to indulge. Made Makaroni Bakar (notice that its not called Baked Macaroni, coz its a Malayanized version of it). I'll share the recipe shortly. Another one of my easy-to-make baked extravaganza.

Work, however, has been quite stagnant these days. I've done all that needs to be done, and really can't make up any other work for now. I just had a looonnng talk with my boss regarding my position, my grade, my job, the enigma of it all, the fairness and unfairness etc...You know how it is...And this conversation may have been the best conversation I've ever had with him, since joining his force one and a half years ago. I think there'll be more of this 'talk' from now onwards..And its amazing how he sees everything. I mean everything, OK. From your best to your worst, and I'm happy that he sees more of the former in me ;) I guess its not so bad working here after all, and I could make do till...

I've been tagged aye, by Nik and Lina...I'm kinda open about everything that I do and did, so I don't really know what I could talk about. Give me a bit of time, and I'll try figure out about 10 secrets I could write on.
